Butterfly-like gossamer wings hint as to the types of butterflies that feed upon and pollinate the jonquils that our fairy, Jonquilla is admiring. The jonquil is a widely cultivated ornamental plant native to southern Europe but naturalized elsewhere having fragrant yellow or white clustered flowers. It is often used colloquially for any yellow daffodil.
